COPYEDITING

$0.01 per word ($150 minimum)

Copyediting is the final step in perfecting your completed manuscript. This is the crucial step for catching and correcting the errors and inconsistencies that threaten your brand, so that we can ensure that you are selling a professional-quality product that readers can trust. To many (including me in my early days of writing!), a copyedit can initially seem to be unnecessary, especially when most writers feel capable of catching major errors themselves (been there, done that!).

A good copyedit requires an unwavering eye, incredible patience, and extensive experience in the types of issues that authors often miss during their own checks. A thorough copyedit is not completed in a single session. Rather, it is completed over several days to ensure that every page receives maximum focus.

Plus, your work will be fully read, reviewed, and edited by THREE professionals on our staff before we return your edited book to you, thereby further ensuring detail with the editing of your book. I will be one of the THREE editors to copyedit your manuscript. the other two editors will be chosen based upon their understanding of the genre that you have chosen for you book.

As editors, we keep extensive, specialized notes, as we record all items that might need checking for consistency or accuracy later in the process.

This extensive service is intended to catch the following:

  • Errors in grammar, spelling, or punctuation.

  • Inconsistencies in spelling, capitalization, and numerals.

  • Misuse of words, figures of speech, or specialist terminology.

  • Factual inaccuracies or missing information.

We will find and correct all remaining errors in your manuscript, returning the edited and corrected documents that will be ready to convert straight into e-book format or into a completed manuscript for your upcoming submissions to publishers.

So why should you trust us to copyedit your manuscript?

  • We can be objective – A forensic copyedit requires an editor to have fresh eyes and no assumptions about what is on the page. After months or even years of crafting a story, this is something authors just cannot expect of themselves (yours truly included for my own books). In essence, as writers, our brains often automatically fill in the missing or corrected words and grammar during the editing process, because we own the words and we know what is SUPPOSED to be there! At the start of the copyediting process, we do not emotionally own your words nor do we have preconceived notions or history of what should be there. As such, we are able to objectively read your manuscript as outsiders with no emotional connection to the words, plot, characters, or the exhaustive hours that you have logged throughout your writing process (although, admittedly, we often become attached to manuscripts at the end of the process!).

  • We know that there are mistakes – We do not wonder IF there are errors in a manuscript, we KNOW that they are there. That means that we are constantly on the hunt, applying specialist knowledge about the kind of errors that are commonly missed by untrained editors and spellcheckers alike.

  • We know the difference between ‘error-free’ and ‘professional’ – Avoiding outright errors is important, but attaining a professional standard of grammar, punctuation, and spelling is equally as important, but often overlooked. Our editors have the technical experience and professional reference materials to catch even the smallest errors, discrepancies, and nuances which help us to help you to assure your readers that your work will always be presented at the highest professional level.

  • A professionally copyedited book shows your readers that they can trust your skill and dedication as an author. It is the most reliable way to enhance their reading experience and turn one-time readers into longstanding and returning fans of your writing!
